Powerful Productivity from Enjoyable Work

Socrates and Fred exploring productivity in the Agora

Fred: They should not only be more engaged and productive, but they also produce better results, right? They would radiate positivity, inspiring others around them. They would find meaning in work and take pride in their accomplishments. That's the type of workforce we all aspire to have, isn't it, Socrates?

Socrates: I know I would, Fred. Now, imagine this. What if we could create workplaces where everyone enjoys their work, where work feels less like work and more like play? What would such a workplace be like? How can we do this?

Fred: Glad handing and posters with positive affirmations would not be enough. They are paternalistic, and can become objects of ridicule. Perhaps, more than awards, and posters, we would need to start with a system that works well and is conducive to joy. The kind of system that promotes a sense of order, but allows flexibility and autonomy. That would inspire employees to take ownership of their work and improve it, wouldn't it?

Socrates: Indeed, Fred. And what if this system promoted collaboration and communication, encouraging the sharing of ideas and information, just as children do in their play? Would that not make work more enjoyable and rewarding?

Fred: I believe so, Socrates. Imagine a system that provided opportunities for growth and development, encouraging learning and exploration, just as play does for children. That would make work an adventure, wouldn't it? And finally, a system that ensures a safe and positive work environment, where respect and fairness are the norm, and where everyone is valued and treated equally. That would make work a place where people feel respected and valued, wouldn't it?

Better Productivity from enjoyable work, demands know-how and discipline

Socrates: Well reasoned, Fred. Creating such a system requires an understanding of WHY the business exists,

  • What are its collective aims,
  • What things of value to real people it is working to provide.
  • Then employee needs,
  • And how to cultivate the dynamics that drive productivity and job satisfaction.

Fred: It requires the kind of knowledge that comes from experience, observation and testing, as you always point out. A willingness to learn, experiment, and adapt—qualities as important in work as they were in the games of our childhood.

Socrates: You have been listening!

Fred: Of course, but, that sounds like a monumental task, Socrates. But it's a compelling idea. If we could help create that kind of workplace, providing some of that necessary knowledge to transform work into a joyful experience, what a difference that could make!

Socrates: And that, my dear Fred, is where the IDW Method™and MasterManaging.com come in. In our organization, we believe that good people, working together to do something worthwhile, with a bit of knowledge, can achieve incredible things. We provide that “bit of knowledge” that can make the difference between a job you have to do and a job you love to do.

Fred: I share this vision, Socrates. A workplace where work is joyful, where work is the adult version of play, is a place I'd love to be a part of.

Socrates: Then join us on this journey together, Fred. Let's create workplaces where everyone can find joy and satisfaction. After all, work should be something we all love to do. We spend most of our adult life doing it!

Dan Strongin

When I started managing, I thought being a leader meant knowing it all and doing it all, myself. It cost me—time, energy, health and opportunities.
Everything changed when I met mentors who taught me what managing really is. I help family-owned businesses, partnerships, and passionate solo owners, like me, build simpler, more rewarding ways to manage their work. With decades of experience across the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil, I’ve learned that success comes from the people at the heart of the business—not just the numbers. My approach, Flipped Consulting, gives you the tools to solve your own challenges and create systems that make life easier, business steadier, and results more predictable. If you’re tired of constant fires and want to focus on what really matters.
